At Semantics Lab, we collaborate with talented AI researchers to solve previously-unsolved challenges of humanity. Our research primarily focused on Natural Language Understanding, Image Semantics and AI-based Security.

Natural Language Understanding

Natural language understanding (NLU) is a unique category of natural language processing that involves modeling human reading comprehension or in other words, parses and translates input according to natural language principles.

NLU has considerable commercial interest over various buisness fields. Applications such as news-gathering, text categorization, voice-activation, data archiving, and large-scale content analysis etc., directly depend on NLU.

While NLU is not a new science, the technology is rapidly advancing thanks to an increased interest in human-to-machine communications, plus an availability of big data, powerful computing and enhanced algorithms.

Image Semantics

Image semantics analyze images with human-level understanding. It ultimately bridges semantic gap between low-level visual features and high-level concepts that conveyed the image meaning. It is one of the most exciting and fastest-growing research areas in the computer vision.

Image semantics is widely used in many applications like satellite imaging, robotic technologies, sensory networks, medical and biomedical imaging, intelligent transportation systems, etc.

Extraction of semantics from image is difficult by traditional image processing. However, recent computer vision technologies and advanced machine learning algorithms support efficient semantic image analysis and retrieval.

AI Security

AI-based security capitalise potentialities of Artificial Intelligence in security maintianance. With the huge increase in the number of systems and security attacks, the amount of data that cyber security professionals have to process has increased dramatically, to the point where it is impossible to process it manually.

AI can automatically identify potentially malicious software behaviour, attack vectors and related anomalies in real time, allowing a continuously adaptive defence mechanism to identify and shut down intrusions faster and easier than ever before. This technological advancement not only significantly reduces the number of cyber security breaches, but also empowers analysts to better focus their time and speeds up the process to identify breaches from hundreds of days to mere hours.

Modern AI techniques, such as machine learning and deep learning, have an important role to play in the analysis of the data. They are particularly useful for predicting attacks and providing response plans.
